Pencil drawing depicting Joseph Nollekens, an acclaimed British sculptor and a founding member of the Royal Academy, from behind. In his youth, Smith had belonged to Nollekens's studio. Nollekens had also employed Smith's father, Nathaniel, as an assistant, and Smith would eventually write a biography of Nollekens.
